Inappropriate artificial lighting can have a negative impact on the character of both the host property and street scene.
Front garden lighting and lighting design to illuminate a building subtly are acceptable subject that they are not obstructive to the neighbouring properties and wider street scene.
The position of lighting on building façades should be carefully considered in terms of the location, appearance, size and the number of lights. The location of the lighting units should respond to the façade's layout and proportions of the property. The lighting unit should be unintrusive to blend in with the building’s character.
The intensity of light and positioning is important in ensuring neighbouring properties are unaffected. It is encouraged lighting is operated using motion sensors or similar means to control the length of illumination.
