Policy EM2 – Erection of New Buildings
The introduction of open air swimming pools could be regarded as acceptable subject to the following principles:
- A property with a large garden or able to cater very discreet locations would be considered.
- Location of the pool would be important when assessing an application. The key credentials including minimising the impact on the character and appearance of the garden or amenity from street views and other public vantage points.
- The proposals should be carefully designed to minimise impact through its location as well as being screened with soft landscaping where possible. This would include retaining the residential amenity of neighbouring properties.
- The associated elements such as external paving, pump housing, lighting and the design and specification of the pools appearance would need careful design input. The proposals would be expected to marry with the design of the garden and property. Refer to the guidance for detached outbuildings in gardens in this instance.
